Traditionally associated with Earth and darkness, tacere is why I don't talk or write much about my rituals and private practices of faith. That, and my Christian heritage taught me it's more important to live your faith rather than discuss it. Especially with those who may not understand the why or how. If I give away my passion and energy seeking approval and validation, what's left to change the World? Faith is between me and the Divine, no one else. Tailltean games
❝In Irish Gaelic, the feast was referred to as “Lughnasadh”, a feast to commemorate the funeral games of the Irish Sun God Lugh. However, there is some confusion on this point. Although at first glance, it may seem that we are celebrating the death of Lugh, the God of Light does not really die (mythically) until the autumnal equinox. And indeed, if we read the Irish myths closer, we discover that it is not Lugh’s death that is being celebrated, but the funeral games that Lugh hosted to commemorate the death of his foster mother, Taillte. Tailltean marriage

Do I have room for the Christian God? Yes. Do I worship him? No. Should it matter? No. My best answer, “Tain't mine.” Christian beliefs matter to me about as much the mortgage that your third cousin twice-removed took out. The only reason I would need to integrate Christian beliefs is if I were trying to impress Christians with how good a Christian I was. I'm not saying that Christianity is not important to Christians. I am saying that Christians shouldn't expect their beliefs to govern others. If you look at Christian holy writings, at the end of the day the only thing that really matters is how you touch the lives of others, not if your side got credit. I don’t think that carpenter from Galilee was interested in the scoreboard or the record book. Or how many butts in pews there are. Ten Commandments

While often proclaimed as a universal morality by certain monotheists, there are issues. Number One on that greatest hits list requires those who don't follow the G*d of Israel to make their gods secondary. Number Two (which apparently doesn't apply to crucifixes) also violates the beliefs of non-monotheists. Number Three or Number Four (depending on the version) requires honoring the sabbath day and keeping it holy. Shabbat (the Jewish sabbath) starts on Friday evening, some Christian versions have it on Saturday, and some Christian versions have it on Sunday. This isn't necessarily required in other faiths. Rather than long debates about which religion should be raised over all others and why, it's easer just to say tain't mine and move on. 13Ten plus three, twelve plus one, seven plus five plus one. An odd and prime number considered potent for many reasons. Thirteen lunar months make up slightly more than a solar year. Actually the full lunar cycle averages a smidge more than 29.53 days, but the poetry is there. The lunar cycle was commonly thought of as 28 days (sidereal month), so a “year and a day” was thirteen moons plus one day. In the “COVEN” entry of the classic An ABC of Witchcraft Past and Present, Doreen Valiente lists several uses of the number thirteen, including Romulus and his twelve companions, the Thirteen Treasures of Britan, jury trials with a judge, and covens depicted in art with twelve members and a God figure. The interesting entry runs several pages, far too much to quote here. Of course, one of the best known thirteens is Yeshua ben Yosef and his disciples. thorium reactor
A type of molten salt reactor that uses thorium as fuel.❝Thorium is a naturally-occurring, slightly radioactive metal discovered in 1828 by the Swedish chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius, who named it after Thor, the Norse god of thunder. It is found in small amounts in most rocks and soils, where it is about three times more abundant than uranium. Soil contains an average of around 6 parts per million (ppm) of thorium. ❝There are several basic facts of nuclear power that have made it a tough sell around the world. For one, the uranium needed for nuclear power plants is rare and expensive. The uranium used in power plants can also be turned into weapons-grade material, requiring tight regulation. Lastly, a nuclear power plant, no matter how well designed, could experience meltdown under certain circumstances. It's much harder using thorium in a breeder reactor. At present, laws and regulations favor large scale breeder reactors over smaller scale molten-salt reactors. The technology hasn't proven itself on an industrial scale. behavior maps • analysis/synthesis • intuitionThe only way I could make a practical definition of intelligence and intuition. Thought modes are the “gears” of intelligence. Each mode involves a different approach and different parts of the brain. Each ascending mode is more complex and requires more creativity. The first thought mode uses behavior maps (see the Robot). These are the “rules of the game,” the learned scripts from your family/society/culture, the expected behaviors. Behavior maps are given. It's how a man treats a lady, it's the recipe for apple pie, it's the steps in a government form. Encounter a situation, pull up the expected script, and follow all the steps to the end. That should give you the expected result. Behavior maps depend on rote memorization. A rule set is not necessarily the best mental tool. It's a working shortcut to get started. It may not be the best way to do things, or even a good general case. It's just fast and workable. Behavior maps are almost pure stimulus/response, most people never move beyond this "gear." They learn the correct rules for the given situation and measure their success by the rules. Rule sets can work pretty well until there's a situation that isn't covered by any script on file. It's more likely that an individual will create their own behavior maps and rule sets through experimentation than to move into the second thought mode. When a teacher doesn't understand the subject, the only way they have to judge the student's success is how close the student adheres to the script. Most American education rates knowledge of and expertise in using behavior maps, not problem solving ability. I suspect this has something to do with an ace factor, another 80/20 rule. But I haven't run the statistics. I call the second thought mode analysis/synthesis. When people think of intelligence, this concept commonly pops into their head. Use what's known to measure what is unknown and experiment for better solutions. This mode makes people build or rebuild their mental tools. Existing rule sets aren't nearly as important as finding a better working solution under the circumstances. The third and least understood thought mode is intuition. Intuition finds a solution that probably works, but there is no clear progression and often not enough understanding to explain. This is where analysis/synthesis can really shine, something has to go back and fill in the blanks.
